Liverpool’s most recent signing, Thiago Alcantara, is one of four players at the club to have received a nomination for FIFA’s « Best Men’s Player » award.
Thiago was part of Bayern Munich’s team, which won three times last season before moving to Anfield in September.
In the meantime Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah have also been nominated. The trio was decisive in leading Jürgen Klopp’s team to the club’s first championship title in 30 years.
In fact, Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne will be shortlisted along with Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Sergio Ramos.
Bayern striker Lewandowski was the favorite for the France Football-organized Ballon d’Or, which was canceled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The future English coach Sarina Wiegman was shortlisted for the women’s coaching award along with Emma Hayes, who shortlisted three of her Chelsea players for the women’s player of the year.
Ji So-yun, Sam Kerr and Pernille Harder are shortlisted by England international Lucy Bronze from Manchester City and Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema.
Manchester City’s Ellie Roebuck and Chelsea’s Ann-Katrin Berger are nominated for Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper, while Alisson Becker is the only Premier League stopper shortlisted for the men’s equivalent.
Elsewhere, FIFA has announced the nominations for the Puskas Prize, which is awarded for the best goal of the year.
Jordan Flores’ incredible volley for Dundalk against Shamrock Rovers in the Irish league is also shortlisted, as is Sophie Ingle’s appearance for Chelsea against Arsenal and a good goal for Manchester City’s Caroline Weir against Manchester United.
