COVID-19 numbers in the Haldimand-Norfolk health district continue to rise as the predicted second wave of the pandemic continues to take a toll.
Six new infections in the health district were confirmed on Thursday, the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit reported on its website on Friday morning.
According to the health unit breakdown by community, four new cases were confirmed in Simcoe on Thursday, while one new case was confirmed in Waterford and one new case in Hagersville.
The six new cases bring the total number of infections confirmed in the Health District to 643 since the World Health Organization declared a global pandemic in March.
A total of 563 of them have recovered from the virus, an increase of two from the number reported Thursday. The total number of active cases involving isolated residents is 43 – an increase of four from the number reported Thursday.
In the past 14 days, the local health unit has confirmed 53 new infections. A total of 6. 166 people in Norfolk and Haldimand have tested negative for the virus since spring – an increase of eight from Thursday.
