MPPs in Ontario have voted to stop the biannual practice of changing clocks an hour before or an hour back, but this would depend on the Quebec government and New York state enact similar laws.
However, Roberts issued a statement Wednesday night saying his bill passed the final legislative move unanimously at Queen’s Park.
Bill 214, which has yet to receive royal approval from the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, would permanently move Ontario into summer time.
In relation to the reason for pursuing the change, Roberts’ statement cited academic studies suggesting that changing the clock every two years could have « serious negative effects » on health.
The statement also states that the change would result in more daylight in the evening and therefore « likely » would help increase shopping activity.
I am pleased to announce that the Ontario Legislative Assembly has just voted unanimously to pass Bill 214 to end the clock changes.
I look forward to reaching out to colleagues in Quebec and New York State so that together we can end this outdated practice. #onpoli pic. Twitter. com / giZnHxENRp
