Newcastle United may have the option of Nabil Bentaleb stepping down on a bargain deal during the January transfer window.
Bentaleb spent the second half of last season on loan from the Magpies. Schalke sent him out to steal his wages from their books.
They were hoping to get him on a permanent contract to St. James Park back and there were negotiations about it, but in the end Newcastle couldn’t reach an agreement with the Bundesliga.
However, it looks like they’re getting a second die roll with a crisis in the German club, which means Bentaleb could be available cheaply.
Kicker reports that the club experienced a « turbulent » day yesterday when the technical director Michael Reschke was removed from his position.
The drama continued in the evening, however, and Nabil Bentaleb and Amine Harit were to train on their own until further notice.
Harit still has a future in the club, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with Bentaleb, who according to club boss Jochen Schneider is « undisputedly an excellent footballer », but « Schalke and Nabil Bentaleb don’t go together » ‘.
He adds that « the paths will be parted no later than the summer of 2021, » which makes it clear that he is desperate to get rid of it as soon as possible.
So Newcastle has the perfect opportunity to rush in January and grab a bargain for a player they are clearly keen on.
Of course there is every chance that their interest has waned since the summer, but we are sure that the chance of a cheap offer will attract those responsible in the club.
