Two golfing greats and two NFL stars will take to the course for the second edition of The Match – and here is all of the information you need to know ahead of the event
A year-and-a-half after The Match: Tiger vs. Phil , Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are set to go head to head once more in The Match: Champions for Charity .
The first event was won by Mickelson after four play-off holes, with almost nothing separating the two legends of the sport.
Mickelson claimed the $9million dollar prize that day, but the 2020 edition of The Match aims to raise money for coronavirus relief efforts.
Quarterback legend Tom Brady will team up with Mickelson, while Woods is accompanied by another QB great – Peyton Manning.
Here is all the information you need to know ahead of The Match: Champions for Charity , including tee-off times, course details and television and live stream information…
The first match was held at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas, Nevada – but the second edition will be held on the other side of the US, in Florida.
Medalist Golf Club – where Woods is a member – is the venue. The course is played over 7,571 yards and is notoriously challenging.
They face 15-time major winner Tiger Woods and his partner, two-time Super Bowl winner Peyton Manning – who has a slight advantage over Brady on paper with a slightly superior handicap.
The game is an exhibition match so there is a somewhat fluid format in place and some details are yet to be confirmed.
We do know that the first nine holes are four-ball best-ball, meaning all four participants play their ball and the lowest score wins the hole for their team.
The NFL stars are also expected to be challenged with fewer shots than they would usually have given their handicaps
On the back nine holes, the format is modified alternate shot. All four participants tee-off, the best ball is then selected and the players take alternate shots.
Expect some interesting decisions to be made here, as the pros will be tempted to take their drive but that will leave the amateurs needing to play the approach shot.
UK viewers can tune in to The Match: Champions for Charity via CNN International from 8pm BST.
