About three hours later, Mr. Wong took to Twitter to say he was released “Nothing to celebrate on this weirdly quick release,” he said, adding he risked a five-year prison sentence

Today’s march came after much of the city came to a halt with the metro suspended and many stores and malls closed after a night of violence

Hundreds of protesters, almost all masked, staged the unauthorized protest in the popular Causeway Bay shopping district, a day after town chief Carrie Lam banned masks citing powers of emergency from colonial times unused for half a century

The act of resistance came after a night of widespread chaos as hardline protesters ransacked dozens of subway stations, vandalized shops with links to mainland China, set fires and blocked roads. chanted “No rioters, only tyranny” and other popular protest slogans

By the time of the march, Hong Kong had already been battered by four months of increasingly violent pro-democracy protests

During a visit to Victoria Peak in Hong Kong with friends, he said he was photographed and verbally assaulted by a “pro-Beijing gang”

M Wong said the price he paid for being under surveillance was “relatively low” compared to protesters shot dead during protests last year

But he said it was difficult to plan for the future under the threat of the national security law imposed by China on Hong Kong in June in response to the huge and often violent pro-democracy protests in the country. last year
