EbeneNews – AU – England’s Clare Connor fears Boards of Directors will struggle to fund women’s football

BENGALURU – International women’s cricket may struggle to attract enough investment due to the financial impact of the Covid pandemic, England women’s cricket manager Clare Connor said

The World Twenty20 women’s cricket final between Australia and India on March 8 drew more than 80,000 people to Melbourne Cricket Ground – a sign of the popularity of the women’s game – ahead of COVID-19 shutdown

The 50th World Cup, which was due to take place next year, has been postponed until 2022 and Connor has said that unless international cricket is played regularly over the next 12 months, some teams will face financial problems

‘It’s worrying,’ former England women captain Connor told BBC Sport. “Some boards will struggle in the next year or so if they aren’t already struggling C ‘ is a concern

“The problem is, other boards won’t be able to invest the same level of funding, focus and commitment that the England and Wales Cricket Board and one or two others are more easily able to to do “

The England women’s team are in the middle of a five-game T20 streak against the West Indies

The Australians beat New Zealand on Saturday in the first international game played in either country since March

“The story was about female sport disproportionately affected compared to male sport It was really worrying, but it also prompted me to make sure that was not our reality,” said Connor

“I’m sure he will come back there is a lot of water to go under the bridge until we get to this point, but I’m really happy with what we’ve accomplished in the last six month “
