Jose Perez, co-manager of Turkish middleweight boxer Avni Yıldırım (21-2, 12 KOs), believes that his fighter will be able to form a worthy opposition to Saul Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs) in the upcoming fight, scheduled for 27 February. Perez is quoted by the BoxingScene portal.
Callum Smith tried to survive that fight. While Avni will enter the ring not for this. He follows victory or defeat. Either I will kill or they will kill me. He has nothing to lose. A person whom no one gives even a chance is very dangerous. This is what I can tell you.
I should point out that Canelo acted like a gentleman, keeping his word. Eddie Hearn behaved in the same way, and we want to thank Luis DeKubas and Al Haymon who took part in the negotiations.
Canelo is not stupid. But I see that he is not particularly worried about the upcoming fight. He started training just a few days ago. I’m sure Canelo underestimates Avni. He didn’t do that when he was preparing for Callum Smith. But let it continue.
Check out what happened in the first fight between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz. There are tons of examples of large upsets: Miguel Cotto and Austin Trout, Orlando Salido and Vasily Lomachenko. More recently, Felix Verdejo vs. Nakatani. This is boxing. You cannot underestimate your opponent, whereas Canelo and the media do this to Avni. »
