Both the White Sox and Royals want to get to the top of AL Central, and the Royals will try to get Mike Minor out of season to get a win on Sunday.
Minor had one Difficult start to the 2021 season, giving up four runs in six innings against the Rangers, but he has demonstrated the ability to be reliable – he made the 2019 American League All-Star Team and has a 3.13 strike rate.
White Sox starter Dylan Cease’s numbers since the start of the 2020 season aren’t bad on the surface – a 5-4 record at 4.14 ERA – but he’s fortunate enough to have that statistic. He has completed a total of 63 innings in his 14 starts during that time, giving up 1.9 home runs and 5.3 walks per nine innings while scoring only 6.7 strikeouts per nine innings.
Both offenses went on Weekend in runs per game among the top five in the American League. The White Sox recorded six runs per game and the Royals 5.5 runs per game, but the White Sox bullpen has an ERA of 5.33 versus 3.33 in Kansas City.
Since the numbers are down from Cease to one Indicating regression and Minor supported by a bullpen who was reliable when needed, should the Royals’ drive to return to the postseason take another step with a win on Sunday.
