After Mikey and Emre resigned from Years & Years, Olly Alexander explained to Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp why it became a solo project.
On March 18, Years & Years announced that Olly Alexander would join the band as Will take on solo project after Emre and Mikey resigned.
When the It’s A Sin star came to the Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp, Olly explained why they chose to take the step.
« Me, Mikey and Emre met ten years ago, « said the ‘Starstruck’ singer. « We’ve been in this band for a decade and during that time we’ve just grown apart musically.
» We kind of stopped making music together and when we announced that I was going to be & years, it did Took a long time, « confirmed Olly.
He also said he wanted to keep using the stage name Years & Years instead of releasing music as Olly Alexander, as he felt valuable about their back music catalog.
» For I love Years & Years and these songs that I wrote; I don’t want to let go of her. It just felt right to stay as Years & Years. «
Years of & Years posted on social media in March confirmed the change, saying, » There are some changes that we are notifying you about would like. This upcoming new album was an Olly endeavor and we’ve decided that & years will go on as an Olly solo project.
« The three of us are still good friends. Mikey will be part of the Y&Y family and perform live play us, and Emre will focus on becoming a writer / producer. «
