Health officials identified 99 more cases of COVID-19 on Vancouver Island over the weekend.
The new cases are among the 1,428 new cases registered across B.C. since Friday, bringing the total number of provinces to 77,263 cases since the pandemic began.
There are currently 228 active cases of COVID-19 with the health authority. Island Health has determined the approximate locations of 213 of the active cases.
Thirty-eight are in the South Island, 133 in the Central Island, and 42 in the North Island.
Died on the weekend in the year BC Eight people from COVID-19, including one on Vancouver Island. The BC death toll has now reached 1,335 while Island Health’s has reached 24.
There are currently 16 people in hospital for treatment for the virus in the Vancouver Island area, and six more are receiving critical care.
Health officials say 28 new « worrying » COVID-19 cases were also recorded over the weekend, bringing the total number of variants of B.C. increased to 101.
Most of these cases, 81, are of the British variant, 20 are of the South African variant and two cases are of the Nigerian variant, although two of these cases are still under investigation.
On the previous Monday, health officials released a last-minute update on COVID-19 variants in schools after several were discovered in the Fraser Health area over the weekend.
Health officials said Monday they administered 218,726 doses of COVID-19 vaccine in BC, according to the BC Center for Disease Control.
