Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee on Sunday slammed BJP leaders for not singing the national anthem properly at a rally at Kolkata’s Howrah Dumurjala Stadium. Sharing a video clip on his Twitter handle, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew said, « Those who promote patriotism and nationalism also cannot sing our national anthem properly. » This is the party that claims to uphold the honor and pride of the country.
Terming it an ‘anti-national’ act, the leader of the ruling party of West Bengal demanded an ‘apology’ from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the BJP. He asked the question, « Will Modi, Shah and BJP apologize for this anti-national act? »
Former West Bengal forest minister Rajiv Banerjee, Beli MLA Vaishali Dalmia, Uttarpara MLA Praveer Ghoshal, former Howrah Mayor Ratin Chakraborty and Bangla actor Rudranil Ghosh joined the BJP on Saturday. During this, Union Minister Smriti Irani, BJP State President Dilip Ghosh, Suvendu Adhikari, National Vice President of the party Mukul Roy, General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya were present on the stage. The national anthem was sung in their presence.
