In Moscow, representatives of the prosecutor’s office handed warnings to the organizers of the action in memory of Novaya Gazeta journalist Anastasia Baburova and lawyer Stanislav Markelov, who were killed by neo-Nazis in 2009. OVD-Info informs about it.
Kirill Medvedev and Pavel Kudyukin received warnings. The prosecutor’s office recalled that the ban on holding mass events and actions continues to operate in Moscow due to the « unfavorable sanitary and epidemiological situation. »
Earlier, the authorities of the Russian capital refused to hold a march named after Baburova and Markelov, citing coronavirus restrictions, and warned of responsibility if the event was held.
Left-wing lawyer Stanislav Markelov and Novaya Gazeta journalist Anastasia Baburova were killed on January 19, 2009 in central Moscow. Nikita Tikhonov and Evgenia Khasis were found guilty of their murder, and Ilya Goryachev was the organizer. All of them were members of the neo-Nazi organization BORN. Since 2009, anti-fascist actions have been held in Moscow and St. Petersburg in memory of Baburova and Markelov. In 2020, the police detained more than 10 people at the march.
