Three rockets were fired at the US embassy in Iraq’s capital Baghdad on Monday. Sources said that one of them fell in the green zone and the other fell in the surrounding residential areas. This is the third attack on Western diplomatic, military and commercial institutions within a week.
On the other hand, the Iraqi army has said in a statement that no one has died in the rocket attack. There are many foreign embassies and government buildings in the Green Zone. The area is located on the target of rockets that, according to US and Iraqi officials, are Iran-backed attacks.
A statement issued by the Iraqi Security Service said at least two rockets fell in the Green Zone, where the US and other foreign embassies are located. A security official said at least one rocket targeted the US Diplomatic Mission to Iraq’s National Security Service. Other rockets have fallen in nearby residential areas.
A week ago, a dozen rockets were fired at the Military Complex at Arbil Airport. There are foreign soldiers who have been helping Iraq in the war against jihadis led by the US since 2014. Two people were killed in this incident. These included a foreign contractor and a civilian.
