Rishi Sunak said David Cameron had « urged » tax officials to help finance firm Greensill participate in a multi-million dollar Covid-19 support program, text messages revealed.
The news released following a freedom of information request show the Chancellor intervened personally to try to help after being contacted by the former Prime Minister who was a paid advisor to the company.
It resulted in nearly two months of negotiations between the Treasury’s second senior official and Greensill when trying to figure out a way to include her.
When the decision was made not to proceed with the plan Greensill was involved in, Sunak called Cameron personally to give him the news.
