Devon Conway, who played a blistering 99 off 59 balls in the first T20 match against Australia, has been praised by India’s spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin. Conway could not find any buyers in the auction for IPL 2021 and remained unsold. Four days later, the Kiwi batsman played a brilliant innings in T20 format to test his ability. His batting helped New Zealand beat Australia by 53 runs in the first T20 match.
Praising Devon Conway’s innings on his Twitter, Ashwin wrote, « Devon Conway was just four days late, but what a great innings. » Conway scored 10 fours and three long sixes in his unbeaten innings of 99 runs. Thanks to his fiery innings, New Zealand batting first scored 184 runs, losing 5 wickets in 20 overs. In response, the entire Australian team chased down the target and were all out for 131 runs. Ish Sodhi took four wickets from Kiwi team.
Chasing a target of 185 runs, the Australian team started badly and the team lost their first four wickets on a score of just 19 runs. Captain Aaron Finch (1), Matthew Wade (12) and Josh Phillip (2) could not do much with the bat. Mitchell Marsh (45) did hold one end, but Glenn Maxwell (1) and Marcus Stoinis (8) could not support him either. On behalf of the Kiwi team, Trent Boult and Tim Southee gave the Kangaroo team the start and both took four wickets.
