Ebene Magazine – Phil Mickelson is unwilling to give up playing on the PGA Tour

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Phil Mickelson still believes he can win – at the Masters and elsewhere on the PGA Tour. But Mickelson, 50, feels like he’s playing more Champions Tour events.

« My game feels better than the results, but I still have a lot to do and it was a fun challenge for me me to play at a high level again, « said Mickelson, three-time Masters winner. said Tuesday. « I’ve seen a lot of progress in my game without a lot of results. I enjoy the challenge. The difficulty is when you’re on a plateau and not really progressing and doing the work and not seeing the results, staying consistent and committed to stay.

« I need some results to stay motivated to play against the best players. Otherwise, I’m enjoying the Champions Tour a lot. I enjoy being able to play more aggressively. But the challenge that makes the best of me The main thing is to play and compete against the best players. That motivates me to be in the gym and try to swing fast enough physically to go up against these guys.

« That’s what makes me drives and motivates. I still want this challenge in my life because it brings out the best in me. The Champions Tour is a lot more fun than I ever thought and I like to play these events and I will play some. I won’t be playing it full time if I can compete out here or feel like I can compete out here. «

Rory McIlroy is on the first two rounds with Jon Rahm, whose wife just gave birth to their first child last week. He remembered having his first child and how that affected his golf game .

« On my first lap as a dad, I shot 64 to make him live up to it, » McIlroy said jokingly. « He was probably having the greatest days of his life. It’s such a cool feeling. You go up. There are so many emotions involved.

« I think Jon is a great player and he has played well here for the past few years and I’m sure he will handle everything really well. I don’t feel like that If you can keep that mindset this week, so to speak, then you know that being here and being relaxed and maybe not entirely focused on Augusta and the Masters and the Green Jacket is not a bad thing focus. «

There are 10 players from England in the field, most of them non-American contingents. When asked if the English are proud, Lee Westwood, 47, said, « I don’t understand, no. We are all here as individuals. But I think en masse, yes, we have probably been the strongest contingent in a while of the English. «
