Kyrie Irving and Lakers point guard Dennis Schroder were both expelled from the nationally televised Nets Lakers game on Saturday night.
This was believed to be the first ejection for either player. In a game that had already missed James Harden of Brooklyn and both LeBron James and Anthony Davis of defending champions Los Angeles, a high-profile affair remained that was sorely missed.
All-stars Irving and Schroder were hit with technical fouls , with the Nets lagging behind at 9:41 to 66-62 in the third quarter. The two guards began to berate each other, and as Irving continued to argue with Schroder, both were surprisingly hit again by technicians and thrown out.
On the way off the floor, Irving tossed his jersey to the fans as he got back in went to the nets locker room.
Irving has played 566 games in his 10 seasons in the NBA and has never been ejected before. He finished the race with 18 points and four rebounds in 21 minutes and shot 6-of-11 from the ground.
Schroder had played injured and dealt with a tailbone injury. He had 19 points and four assists in 20 minutes. But the Lakers seemed to handle his departure better than the Irving nets. The Nets immediately gave up a 22-9 run and fell behind 88-71.
