Since first joining NCIS in 2017, the actress who portrays Sloane, Maria Bello, has been a welcome member of the show. But last July, reports surfaced that Maria was about to leave her character after her three-year contract with the CBS crime drama expired.
Throughout season 18, fans have carefully searched for clues about Sloane’s departure. Finally, in the episode titled « The First Day, » we see forensic psychologist Gibbs (Mark Harmon) announce that she intends to move on from NCIS, slow down, and maybe move to Costa Rica.
Gibbs is apparently hurt after learning of Sloane’s intentions to leave, which raises questions about how the senior NCIS specialty agent will handle her departure in the coming episodes.
Although Maria has not released a statement, declaring her departure it was apparently just a matter of deciding not to renew her contract. Newsweek reports that Maria has agreed to shoot eight episodes to give Sloane the exit she deserves.
After over three years on the show, the actress just seems ready to move on to other projects. According to her IMDB profile, Maria will be the producer and writer of the upcoming drama The Woman King starring Viola Davis.
While Maria can look forward to The Woman King, her Instagram post last December revealed that she feels bittersweet when she says goodbye to the NCIS cast and crew.
« Me I’ve learned a lot on this trip over the past three and a half years. I’ve learned something about commitment and community, « wrote Maria alongside four pictures of herself with her NCIS castmates. « I’ve learned that the woman I am likes to process through product. I’ve never worked with a friendlier, more generous group of people. »
Later in the post, she added, « I understand why this show is the most watched in the world in 18 years – you must all feel our love. keep watching. I have a feeling it will be for many years to come. Thank you to all of my friends at NCIS and to all of our fans I’m really grateful. «
