Assessing the Sophomore WRs
Covering the impact of coronavirus on the sports world
The Washington Wizards take aim at a season-high fifth consecutive victory when they visit the reigning NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers on Monday. Washington (10-17) owned the worst record in the Eastern Conference prior to the winning streak, which reached four in a 118-110 victory at Portland on Saturday night. The short-handed Lakers (22-9) have dropped two in a row and three of their last four games.
Tip-off at Staples Center is at 10 p.m. ET. William Hill Sportsbook lists Los Angeles as a seven-point favorite while the over-under is 228.5 in the latest Lakers vs. Wizards odds. Before making any Wizards vs. Lakers picks, be sure to see the NBA predictions and betting advice from SportsLine’s proven computer model.

Now, the model has set its sights on Lakers vs. Wizards. You can head to SportsLine to see its picks. Now, here are several NBA odds and betting trends for Wizards vs. Lakers:
With Schroder out of the lineup and Anthony Davis (calf/Achilles) out for four weeks, even more of an onus falls on LeBron James to carry the club. James said as much following the loss to Miami but he is coming off his worst shooting performance of the season and was held under 20 points Saturday for the first time in 14 games. Still, he came up one assist and one rebound shy of a triple-double against the Heat.
The Lakers can still hang their hats on their defense, which ranks No. 1 in the league by allowing a league-low 102.9 points per 100 possessions. Forward Kyle Kuzma, taking the starting spot of Davis, has scored in double figures in seven of the past eight games. He registered a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds) vs. Brooklyn on Thursday before netting a team-high 23 points against the Heat.
Washington’s starting backcourt combined for 64 points in the opener of the four-game road trip at Portland. League scoring leader Bradley Beal reached 30 points for the 17th time on the season and scored at least 35 for the third time in the last four contests. He received ample offensive support from fellow guard Russell Westbrook, who had his best offensive output of February with 27 points.
Westbrook has been filling up the stat sheet for Washington, notching three consecutive triple-doubles and coming up one rebound shy of making it four in a row. He has double-digit assists in each of the past five games, averaging 12.2 during that span to rank second in the league at 9.7 per game. Westbrook had 41 points in his last trip to Staples Center as a member of Houston 12 months ago.
SportsLine’s model is leaning under on the total, projecting both teams combine for 221 points. The model also says one side of the spread hits in well over 50 percent of simulations. You can get that pick at SportsLine.
