Ebene Magazine - Jonathan Quick Earned 54th Career Shutout, Kings Beat Blues

Dustin Brown scored two goals and veteran Jonathan Quick stopped 30 shots in his 54th career shutout, bringing the LA Kings to a 3-0 win over the St. Louis Blues on Monday night.

It was the second shutout this season for the 35-year-old Quick who helped the Kings win two Stanley Cup championships in his career.

Gabriel Vilardi added a goal for the Kings who scored one goal in each period scored and extended their winning streak to five games. Brown finished the standings with a clean sheet at 6:57 p.m. of the third.

Vilardi pounded a loose puck in when it fell off the crease at 5:30 p.m. of the first period. The power play goal brought the Kings 1-0 lead. Los Angeles has scored 16 power play goals in 17 games this season. The Kings only game without a power play goal was against Minnesota on January 16.

The goal was very important to St. Louis. The Blues’ penalty shoot-out had been perfect in five consecutive games (10-10) before Vilardi’s goal was allowed.

A giveaway from Zach Sanford led to King’s second goal. Brown made a nifty move to find his way into the net and score an unsupported goal scored by goalkeeper Jordan Binnington. The Kings took a 2-0 lead at 6:54 p.m.

Binnington, who left the ice at 2:49, had won three times in a row against the Kings. Binnington recorded 28 saves.
