Junnar: In the first phase, Jain Industries Group has provided Rs. 21 lakh for drip irrigation facilities for the Devrai project to be constructed by the Forest Department at Fort Shivneri, the birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji. This fund has been made available through the Sahyadri Mountaineering Society of Junnar.
The project will be implemented through the Forest Department and Archeology Department, said Jayarame Gowda, Deputy Forest Conservator, Junnar Forest Department. Regarding this, Gowda said, « Shivneri fort has pre-existing forest resources. Under the fort conservation and development project, trees have been planted for the conservation of biodiversity on the fort. However, water scarcity is felt in summer. To overcome this, Junnar’s Sahyadri Mountaineering Association had demanded the Jain Industries Group to provide drip irrigation system for Shivneri fort. The concept came to fruition with a resounding yes.
Prior to the implementation of the project, Technical Officer, Conservation Assistant of Archaeological Department B. B. Jungle, Forest Range Officer Ajit Shinde and Sahyadri office bearers jointly inspected the fort and submitted a proposal. In this Devrai project, native trees will be planted on an area of about 25 acres in the forest area behind the Amberkhana building. Irrigation facility for this will be provided by Jain Industries Group.
For the first phase of this project, Jain Thibak will install 21 lakh state-of-the-art materials through social responsibility.
Ravindra Gadiwan, Regional Manager, Jain Thibak, said, “Ajit Jain responded positively to the request of the Sahyadri Mountaineering Association and instructed me to conduct a survey of Shivneri. Accordingly, members of Sahyadri along with me, officials of Forest Department and Archaeological Department inspected the water tanks on the fort, available water reserves, its duration and submitted the plan of drip irrigation to the Forest Department along with our office. He was approved by the company. «
Indigenous fruit trees will be planted and cultivated for conservation of biodiversity on Shivneri. Fruit bearing trees will be planted on the fort for biodiversity conservation as well as bird shelter. It will have about 125 native fruit and flowering plants of various varieties like Gavaran Bore, Chinch, Mango, Karwand, Fanas, Jambul etc.
