In St. Petersburg, a police officer came to the home of Mediazona correspondent David Frenkel and Apology of Protest lawyer Varvara Mikhailova to hand them a warning about the prohibition to participate in uncoordinated actions from 20 to 29 January. Frenkel himself told Znak.com about this.
“We have a list of persons whom we must officially warn,” says the district police officer on the video filmed by the journalist (available to the editorial office). According to her, the list was drawn up at the Center for Countering Extremism.
The document referred to a violation of the high alert regime (Article 8.6.1 of the Administrative Code). Frenkel and Mikhailova did not sign the warning and asked to leave it in the mailbox.
The journalist told the police officer that, in his opinion, the actions of the precinct police officer included the composition of Article 144 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Obstruction of the legitimate professional activities of journalists”). After that, Frenkel invited her to look for the people who crashed his car.
According to the journalist, the attention to him from the police is associated with the events of the summer of 2020. During the vote on the Constitution, the police broke Frenkel’s arm while trying to remove him from the polling station. As a result of the incident, the journalist was taken to hospital, where he was diagnosed with damage to the middle shoulder bone with damage to the radial nerve and underwent surgery.
The Investigative Committee refused to open a criminal case, moreover, in the resolution the photographer was called a provocateur. Later he was fined 500 rubles under the article on disobedience to a police officer (article 19.3 of the Administrative Code) and 2 thousand rubles in the case of interfering with the work of the election commission (article 5.69 of the Administrative Code). Two months later, unknown persons crashed his car.
Recall that on January 23, Navalny’s headquarters announced an unauthorized rally in support of Alexei Navalny, who was arrested on Monday after returning to Russia from Germany, where he was being treated after being poisoned.
