Jaipur: Delhi won the Vijay Hazare Trophy ODI against Maharashtra by three wickets. Batting first, Maharashtra scored 328 for seven in Group D match. In reply, Delhi won by seven wickets with four balls to spare.
Indian batsman and opener Shikhar Dhawan’s smashing century helped Delhi chase down a huge score. Dhawan struck 153 off 118 balls, including a six and 21 fours, in the 44th over. Dhawan put on a century for the opening wicket with Dhruv Shore (61 off 75 balls). Himmat Singh (one) who came later disappointed but Dhawan did not budge.
He was joined by Nitish Rana (27 off 25 balls) and Kisht Sharma (36 off 29 balls). The loss of wickets in the last overs put pressure on the Delhi players. Lalith Yadav (18 off 26 balls) and skipper Pradeep Sangwan (seven off three balls) put on the winning run.
Sangwan won the toss and elected to field. Delhi are second with 12 points from four matches. Maharashtra is in third place with eight points. Mumbai are top with 16 points from four matches. In another match played yesterday, Mumbai beat Rajasthan by 67 runs. Batting first, Mumbai scored 317 for seven. In reply, Rajasthan were all out for 250 in 42.2 overs. For Mumbai, skipper Shreyas Iyer (116 off 103 balls, including three sixes and 11 fours) scored a century. Mahipal Lombard (76 off 69 balls, including four sixes and six fours) was the only batsman to bat for Rajasthan.
