2021 has been declared the Year of Native Languages and National Unity in Tatarstan. As the director of the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication of Kazan University Radif Zamaletdinov said in the program « Interview without a tie » by Andrey Kuzmin, in 2020 scientists have developed a new textbook of the Tatar language for grade 1.

This year, it is planned to develop three more textbooks for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades. By the end of 2021, he said, work will be completed on the creation of a line of textbooks for primary schools.

“We are conducting an experiment, both on the basis of a multilingual complex and on the basis of our educational partner organizations. We have received pretty good responses to date. In order to obtain the appropriate status, enter the federal list, you need to do some more work, to obtain the appropriate expert opinions. If this project is supported, we hope that we will also develop appropriate textbooks for grades 5-9, ”Zamaletdinov said.

In addition to the Tatar language textbooks for schoolchildren, the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication is working on a manual for parents, Zamaletdinov said.

“At present, special textbooks for parents are being developed by order of the leadership of the republic and the educational corps. It is one thing when textbooks are developed for schoolchildren and teachers, and another when, in addition, work is carried out in the direction of parents. These textbooks are focused on learning the language, on how to work with a student in their free time, in general, cover a lot of issues. It seems to me that they are in great demand and will be successful, ”the director of the institute said in an interview published by Tatar-Inform news agency.

Zamaletdinov said that the new textbooks are intended for students who study the Tatar language as a non-native language, and for those Tatars who do not speak the language well.

At present, according to the scientist, about 7 million people speak the Tatar language in the world, of which about half speak the literary language.

“The family plays an important role in preserving the native language, on the one hand, on the other hand, the education system also plays an important role. Parents have a very big responsibility for the child to speak their own language, but we all know perfectly well that parents do not always have enough time to work in this direction. For the most part, grandmothers and grandfathers are engaged in raising children. There is also a very big plus in that the native language is preserved through oral folk art, and the older generation is very good at these materials, ”said Zamaletdinov.
