Less than a week after Kerri Einarson and Team Canada took home the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, it’s time for Tim Horton’s Brier, which starts tonight on TSN.

Defending champion Brad Gushue and its lead player Geoff Walker, the second Brett Gallant and the third Mark Nichols against Ontario Skip John Epping. ET / 5:30 p.m. PT on TSN1, TSN4, TSN5, the TSN App and on TSN Direct.

As a three-time Brier winner, Gushue, along with Ernie Richardson, Kevin Koe, Randy Ferbey and Kevin Martin, would like to make fourth jump for fifth Win tankards. Epping, alongside Brett Laing, the second Mathew Camm and the third Ryan Fry, enters his third Brier and looks for his first trophy.

Three more ties (QC against NL, WC2 against NS and NU against SK) take place on Friday evening will take place before Saturday’s pool game with three featured matchups each day at 10:30 AM ET, 3:30 PM ET, and 8:30 PM ET.

Like the Scotties, this year’s Brier in Calgary will be held at the Markin MacPhail Center will take place, eliminating the need for fans to participate due to COVID-19. It is the second of several bubble games taking place at Canada Olympic Park. It was also announced on Friday morning that the LGT Women’s Curling World Championship will take place in the bubble of the Olympic Park from April 30th to May 9th.

Gushue won his first Brier in a sold out Mile One Center in his hometown St. John’s, NL Needless to say, Tankard or no Tankard, things will be different this year.

« It’s going to be interesting and I really have no idea what to expect, » said Gushue earlier this week. « I think when we are through the first weekend you will probably settle in and know what level (everyone) is at, and then just accept it and fight it out. »

Eighteen teams out all of Canada will compete against each other in the preliminary round until March 11th. The playoffs will conclude with a crowned champion three days later.

The Brier winner will represent Canada at the Calgary Bubble Men’s Curling World Cup, scheduled for April 2-11.
