Ashley Judd’s journey to recovery continues after she fell « catastrophically » earlier this month in a rainforest in Congo.
On Monday, the 52-year-old actress told fans that she was back in the US , where she had an eight-hour operation to repair her leg.
« In an American hospital, I continued to wait for the tissue damage and swelling to subside, » she wrote on Instagram. “Eventually, I was qualified for the 8 hour operation to repair the bones, decompress the bleeding nerve, and pull the bone fragments out of the nerve. I am recovering from the surgery now. “
Judd broke her leg in four places and suffered nerve damage after tripping over a fallen tree in the dark. She had worked to track down bonobos, which are an endangered species of great ape.
Judd thanked medical professionals in Africa and her father, who had traveled to South Africa to be with her.
Judd explained how they were returning to the US after a 22 hour four-flight journey. The actress later had surgery.
Last week, Judd spoke openly about her 55-hour rescue and also shared pictures of the ordeal on Instagram.
